Novelty "fur" yarn

         1 1/2 oz  white (all sizes)
Worsted weight yarn

10 (11, 12) oz  blue denim

29" size 10 1/2  (6.5mm)circular knitting needles( or size required for gauge)
16" size 8 (5mm) circular knitting needles
2 large stitch holders
Size 16 tapestry needle


Gauge::
14 sts = 4" with larger needle and 2 strands of worsted weight held together in Stockinette Stitch (knit one row, purl one row)


Vest Instructions: 

Note: Slip all sts as to knit.


Body
Beginning at lower edge with larger size needles and 2 strands of blue, CO 80 (86, 90) sts; do not join, work back and forth in rows.


Row 1 (right side): Knit.


Row 2:  Purl. Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 7" (7", 8").


Dividing Row
Row 1
(right side):   Sl 1, K1, PSSO; K16 (17, 18) ; these sts form right front;  BO 4 (5, 5) sts for  right underarm; K36 (38, 40) for back;   BO 4 (5, 5) sts for left underarm; for left front, K16 (17, 18), K2 tog: 70 (74, 78) sts.


Row 2: Purl to first underarm; slip Back and Right Front stitches onto stitch holders.

Left Front Shoulder and Neckline Shaping:


Row 1 (right side):Sl 1, K1, PSSO; knit to last 2 sts; K2 tog: 15 (16, 17) sts.


Row 2: Purl.

Row 3:
  Knit to last 2 sts; K2 tog: 14 (15, 16) sts.


Row 4:  Purl.


Rows 5 through 14: Rep Rows 3 and 4.

At end of Row 14: 9 (10, 10) sts.


Work even in st st until armhole measures 4"(5", 5"), ending by working a right-side row/ BO.


  Back Shoulder Shaping:
Move Back stitches from stitch holder onto left-hand needle; hold with wrong side facing you. Join 2 strands of blue.


Row 1 (wrong side): Purl.


Row 2 (right side):Sl 1, K1, PSSO; knit to last 2 sts; K2 tog: 34 (36, 38) sts.


Row 3: Purl.

Work even in st st until armhole measures 1 row less than left
front.


Neckline Shaping:Row 1 (right side): For right back shoulder: K8 (9, 9), K2 tog;


For neckline: BO next 14 (15, 16) sts.


For left back shoulder: K1, pass st on needle over K1; K8 (9, 9).


BO left back shoulder sts; join 2 strands of blue, bind off right back shoulder sts.



Right Front Shoulder and Neckline Shaping:
Move right front shoulder sts from stitch holder onto needle, hold with wrong side facing.


Row 1: (wrong side): Purl.
Row 2 (right side):Sl 1, K1, PSSO; knit to last 2 sts; K2 tog: 15 (16, 17) sts.


Row 3: Purl.


Row 4: Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit across: 14 (15, 16) sts.


Row 5: Purl.


Row 6: Rep Row  4.


Rows 7 through 14 (14, 16)):  Rep Rows 5 and 6. At  end of Row 14 (14, 16): 9 (10, 10) sts.


Work even in st st until armhole measures same as left front.
BO. Sew shoulder seams.


Trim:

Lower Edge Trim:

Hold vest with right side facing you and lower edge at top.


Row 1 (right side): With larger size needles and white, pick up and knit one st in each cast-on st along lower edge.


Row 2: Knit.


Row 3: Purl.


Row 4: Knit.
Bind off as to purl.

Armhole Trim:
Note: Armhole trim is worked in rnds. Do not turn.
Hold vest with right side facing you.


Rnd 1 (right side): Beginning at one underarm with smaller size needles and white, pick up and knit one st in each bound-off st, one st in side of each row to shoulder seam;  one st in seam, one st in side of each row to first st. Do not turn.


Rnds 2 through 4: Purl.


BO as to purl.

Work other armhole trim in same manner.


Neckline Trim
Hold vest with right side facing you and right front at top.


Row 1 (right side): Beginning at first row of right front neckline shaping, with larger size needles and white, pick up and knit one st in side of each row to shoulder seam, in seam, in side of next row on back, in each bound-off st along back neckline, in side of next row on back, in next seam, and in side of each row along left front neckline shaping.


Row 2: Sl 1, K1, PSSO; knit to last 2 sts; K2 tog.


Row 3: P2 tog tbl; purl to last 2 sts; P2 tog.


Row 4: Rep Row 2.


Bind off as to purl.


HAT INSTRUCTIONS:


Starting at lower edge, with larger size needles and 2 stands of worsted weight  held together, cast on 66 sts; do not join, work back and forth in rows.


Row 1 (right side): Knit.


Row 2: Purl.


Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures about 4" from beg, ending by working a  Row 2.


CROWN:


Row 1(right side): * K2 tog; K1; rep from * across: 44 sts.


Row 2: Purl.


Row 3:  K2 tog; * K1, K2 tog; rep from * across: 29 sts.


Row 4: Purl.


Row 5: Rep Row 3. At end of row: 19 sts.


Row 6: Purl.


Row 7: K1, (K2 tog) 9 times: 10 sts.


Cut yarn, leaving a 18" end. Insert end into tapestry needle; draw through rem sts on needle; remove needle. Leave long end for sewing.


CUFF:


Hold hat with right side facing you and cast-on edge at top.


Row 1 (wrong side) :With larger size needles and white, pick up and knit one st in each cast-on st: 66 sts.


Row 2 (right side): Purl.


Row 3: Knit.


Rows 4 through 13: Rep Rows 2 and 3 five times.


Row 14: Purl.

Bind off as to knit, leaving a 12" end for sewing.


Finishing:


Step 1:
At top of crown, draw yarn end tight to bring sts together. With wrong sides facing, sew back seam, carefully matching
rows and colors. Turn right-side out.


Step 2 : Fold cuff up so right side is facing you; with tapestry needle and white, tack cuff to cast-on row of body.
