36” Size 8 (5 mm)    circular knitting needle (or size required for gauge)


36” Size 7 (4.5mm) circular knitting needle


Gauge


With larger needle in rib pat,

20 1/2 sts = 4” with larger needle in rib patt

24 rows = 4” with larger needle in rib patt


Stitch Guide


KW = Knit, wrapping yarn twice around needle.

PW = Purl, wrapping yarn twice around needle.

yb = bring yarn to back of work

yf = bring yarn to front of work



Instructions


With MC and smaller needle, CO  220 sts; do not join, work back and forth in rows.


Bottom Border


Rows 1 through 4: Knit

Row 5: Knit, increasing 30 sts evenly spaced across row: 250 sts.


Body


Note: Sl all sl sts as to purl.


Change to larger needle.

Row 1: (right side). Kl, *Kl, P1; rep from * to last st, K1.

Rows 2 and 3: Rep Row 1.

Row 4: K1,  *Pl, PW;  rep from * to last st,  K1.

Row 5: With A, K1, *yb, sl 1 (dropping extra lp),

K1; rep from * to last st,  K1.

Row 6:  K1, *Pl, YO, sl 1; rep from * to last st,  Kl.

Row 7: K1,  *KW,  K1;  rep from * to last st,  K1.

Row 8: With B,  Kl,  *Pl, YO, sl 1 (dropping extra

lp); rep from * to last st,  K1.

Row 9: With B, K1, *yb, s1 1,  K1; rep from * to last

st, K1.

Row  10: With B, rep Row 4.



Rows 11 through 13: With C, rep Rows 5 through 7.

Rows 14 through 16: With D, rep Rows  8 through  10.

Rows 17 through 19: With C, rep Rows  5 through 7.

Rows 20 through 22: With B, rep Rows 8 through 10.

Rows 23 through 25: With A, rep Rows  5 through 7.

Rows 26 through 28: With MC, rep Rows  8 through 10.

Row 29:  K1, *yb, sl 1 (dropping extra lp),  P1; rep from * to last st,  K1.



Rows 30 through 32: With MC, K1,  *K1, P1; rep from * to last st,  K1.

Rows 33 through 36:  K1,  *Pl, K1; rep from * to last st,  K1.

Rows 37 through 40: K1,  *K1,  P1;  rep from * to last st, K1.

Rows 41 through 44: K1, *Pl, Kl; rep from * to last st, K1.

Rows 45 through  60: Rep Rows 37 through  44 twice more.


Rep Rows 1 through  60 four  times more, then  rep Rows 1 through  32

once more.


Top Border


Change to smaller needle.


Row 1: Knit, decreasing 30 sts evenly spaced across row: 230 sts.

Rows 2 through 5: Knit. At end of last row, BO as to knit.  Weave in all yarn ends.


Side Edgings


With right side of work facing, with smaller needle and MC, pick up and knit 234 sts along one  side edge.  Knit 4 more rows, 

BO as to knit.


Rep edging on opposite side.



Fringe


Following Fringe instructions on page ___  cut 16” lengths of yarn in all colors. Use 7 strands of one color  in  each  knot; tie knots across each CO and BO edge, in following color sequence:  *A, B, C, D, MC; rep from * across,  trim fringe evenly.
